A successful Drupal Meetup

The very first Drupal meetup Kathmandu was held on July 19th 2009 at YIPL offices. The event was organized by YoungInnovations Pvt. Ltd. The event saw a turnout of around 25 drupal enthusiasts.

The event started out with an introduction of all the participants by answering these four questions:

  1. Who are you?
  2. What do you work on?
  3. What are your interests?
  4. Why are you here?

Then Bibek shrestha from YIPl gave a short presentation about what the features of Drupal were and what were the international and local companies that had adopted drupal.

Bibek Shrestha giving a short introduction on Drupal

After the short presentation it was time for some open Discussions. This session was quite fun. We discussed what were the things that we were gonna see in Drupal 7. As Bibek put it..Drupal 7 is gonna knock the socks off Joomla and wordpress. People shares their experiences with usig Drupal. Also there was a discussion on which was the best CMS..Drupal, Joomla or wordpress..

One of the participants shankar pokhrel had registered the drupal translation page..so if anyone is interested in translating the drupal core the they can do so from here http://drupal.org/project/ne.

Binit and Jitendra were busy updating everyone about the drupal meetup ktm through twitter.

The twitter group

All in all it was an interesting event and we are hoping that this will be a monthly event and this will give some boost to the drupal nepal group that has been kinda stagnant recently.
