First demo Toastmasters meet at YIPL
It isnt easy to get out of ones comfort zone specially when one has to stand front and speak to the audience. But at YIPL, people did not hesitate to push that barrier of comfort zone and dive into the new learning area and speak publicly for the first time in their life.
I was the toastmaster or the MC for the meet. Anjesh brought positive ambience in the meeting with the invocation which said 'If you think you can, you can." Anjan, as the grammarian, presented the word and phrase for the day.
Word of the day: Dipsomania
Phrase of the day: Cut to the chase
The theme of the meeting was December. The prepared speeches began after letting the audience know few facts of December first.
The first speaker Prawesh, on his project one, Ice Breaker titled "Just me", definitely inspired the audience with his apt expressions, good starting, body and conclusion in the very first project itself. After Prawesh, Prashant delivered his project one, Ice breaker, titled, "The man with long hands." Prashant looked confident and seemed like he enjoyed every bit of his speech delivery. He also bagged the "Best Speaker" title for the meet.
Rohan as a table topics master took up his role very sincerely and threw very interesting topics on the table. Arjun and Punya, spoke in front of the audience for the first time. Though it was first time, the presence of nervousness was very less. Corresponding to the theme December, the table topics were interesting. Ravindra spoke well on Aids Day with facts and figures regarding the difference between HIV and AIDS and the counts of people infected with the disease. Punya spoke on Christmas, Arjun spoke on 30th Dec, the last day of the year and finally Anjesh spoke on December/Snowfall. While Anjesh spoke, everyone in the room could not stop laughing due to his witty statements about snowfall in Kathmandu and other places. He bagged the title of Best Table topics Speaker.
The final session was conducted by the General Evaluator for the meet, Bimal. Bimal was also the evaluator for Prawesh and he rightly pointed out Prawesh's strength and weakness. Following Bimal, Sita evaluated Prashant. She presented short yet a convincing evaluation. Grammarian Anjan presented an extremely elaborate report by pointing out all the grammatical glitches, the speaker made. Time keeper, Bhabishyat did a very good job by noting down the time taken by all the speaker and Diwaker patiently counted the number of aah, uums, pauses filler words, not complaining about not being able to relax and enjoy the speech. Finally Bimal completed the general evaluation of the meeting saying it did not look like the first meeting since the flow was smooth and everyone was equally involved and enthusiastic.
The meeting went well, developing some interest among people present. I am sure, we cannot wait for another meeting to listen people speaking and to improve our own speaking & listening skills. In the end, the speakers and few others gave their sincere feedback and the meeting was adjourned after the national Anthem.
It was a great experience of sharing and learning. Hope to see you all in next meeting.
Happy speeching.

It was new, but little bit familiar to me. I was nervous, lost many words while giving my first toastmaster's first speech, lots of ums, ahhs, pauses but enjoyed every bit of it. It really showed me that I can improve my speech and mass speaking ability in time. I really like to thank Reenu and Bimal to take the initiative. It was really good to listen to other speakers as well. All in all, I was blown away.
I believe we can go ahead with it and get every opportunity to improve our speaking, thinking, and writing ability in English.
Cheers to all of us!!!
