Toastmaster meet - theme: chilly mornings

Nothing can defy and no-one can deny that we have been learning a lot in writing, speaking and listening areas through our toastmasters meeting. The meeting held on 5th January, Thursday taught us valuable lessons.

Diwaker, started the meeting as an MC and came up with apt theme named "Chilly mornings". Bimal gave the invocation reading out beautiful lines from Chanakya's Chant. After which, I as the grammarian gave the word and the phrase of the day.

Bleak: Adjective
1. Cold and piercing - a bleak wind
2. Without hope or encouragement  - a bleak future

Bleakish - adjective
Bleakly - Adverb
Bleakness - Noun

Close of play
- metaphorically mean by the end of the game
 - by the end of the work day

Then the prepared speech began. Punya delivered his first speech with comfort and poise. He told us about his childhood life and how seeing a bus, pen and copy for the first time made him so excited and amazed. He was evaluated by Prawesh. Prawesh empathized with Punya's situation of delivering a speech in front of an audience as Prawesh delievered his Project one recently too. Unfortunately, our second speaker could not attend the meeting which made Punya and Prawesh the unanimous winners of best speaker and best evaluator.

Following the prepared speech from Punya, the floor was open for table topics. Anjan as the table topics master got topics that matched the theme of the meeting. The topics were simple and non-threatening. Prashant, Prawesh, Bhabishyat and Bimal spoke on the topics. I am sure they enjoyed speaking on the topics as much as the others did by listening them. Bhabishyat became the best table topics speaker; he spoke on chilly morning and the hot tea/coffee.

Next session was of evaluation where in the general evaluator, Anjesh called his evaluation team one by one starting with the grammarian. Hope I did my job as a grammarian well. Some grammatical glitches must have been slip of tongue, however upon mentioning those glitches, the room sounded like someone left the bottle of laughing gas open. Bhabishyat, the time keeper and Prashant, the aah counter did their job very well. General evaluator then gave his evaluation highlighting the need of encouraging our friends and collegues to join the meetings. The meeting ended with the national anthem.

The meeting no doubt went very well. We still need to encourage our friends to join the meeting as Anjesh rightly pointed out. The request of "Each one bring one" did not work well. Lets try it again. Hope to see more participation in next meeting. The request of "Each one bring one" will stay on until the number of participants double. Sangita is planning to participate on table topics next time. So don't miss it, be there to listen to her and many others.
